Three-Tab Shingles
These are available with a warranty of 25 years. The warranty comes from the manufacturer. They are an asphalt shingle and are the most affordable such shingles on the market at the present time.
Architectural Shingles
These shingles provide an attractive shaped look. The look is particularly good when employed with roofs that are easy to see. Compared to the three-tab shingle, they resist the ravages of weather better, because they are laminated. They can carry a warranty from the manufacturer that lasts 30, 40 or 50 years.
Cedar Shingles, AKA Shake Shingles
These are lovely shingles, but they are costly to maintain or replace. On average, the life span of a medium hand split shake is between 15 and 20 years.
